ABOUT THE ARTWORK: 2202 is carried out from 2014 to 2016. It is to explore the daily urban life I was faced and to be presented through the way of the printed photography, photo book and video. The title of this work represents the room number of the house I lived during that period. In this photograph, I took a picture of a local electronic band who participated in a basement party nearby. The next day, I added some other material on this polaroid photograph and trying to record the feeling I've got when I heard the music at that moment.
ABOUT THE ARTIST: Jing Zhao received a BA in Photography at China Academy of Art in 2016 and an MFA in Photographic&Electronic Media at Maryland Institute College of Art in 2019. Her works have been the subject of exhibitions at OCAT Beijing, RIGGS - LEIDY Galleries, Baltimore (2017); Shanghai 21st Century Minsheng Art Museum, Shanghai (2016); Zhejiang Art Museum, Hangzhou (2016). Jing works across disciplines, exploring ideological transformation in this time of accelerated information circulation and cultural diaspora. By documenting everyday events and collecting personal data through cameras, computers, and text, Jing searched for potential narrative lines in the massive inventory and presented a unique viewing perspective through careful re-editing and specific spatial relationships. What interests Jing is the forms in which contemporary digital media shape acts of our memory, intimate routines, emotive processes, and values.
